In this article, we are going to review the BMW M3 Competition. And powering this is a turbocharged 3-liter inline-6 engine that goes through an 8-speed automatic transmission, and the power outputs are 503 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque.

The 2024 BMW M3 Competition Look's Muscular

Starting with the hood, we do need to mention that this particular one is technically a factory color but also technically not. It's the Isle of Man green, but it has a satin paint protection film on it to give it this cool satin finish!

2024 BMW M3 Competition Front Profile

The 2024 BMW M3 Competition has a really muscular design, and popping down below it has got these really cool daytime running lights with the LED headlamps, and then you have the parking sensors on the front end, and of course, we have the M3 Competition badge on the grille with the BMW logo in the center. Putting it all together with this satin finish, we love the look!

Coming to the side here, the tire wheel setup is 275-35 R19 in the front and then 285-30 R20 in the rear, and it has the red brake calipers. So, pretty dang staggered setup overall! We love the wheel design on the competition BMWs!

Then it has the pretty beefy-looking fenders and the M3 competition badge on it, and then side skirts at the bottom. We love the mirrors, how those are body painted, and the same with the door handles; looks good! The full-side view of the M3 competition with the satin finish has a really muscular look!

A quick look at the key fob shows that it has the unlock function or lock function, the opening switch for the trunk, and obviously the M colors there on the side as well.

Here is one of the things that makes the M3 so exciting: it's very practical when it comes to the cargo space. This is a sedan at the end of the day, and that's pretty cool. You can just press the button that will lower the trunk right down. It’s got this low-profile body-painted spoiler, and at the back, you have a carbon fiber roof as well. And lastly, the M3 competition has these super aggressive exhaust tips with that diffuser. Putting it all together, but especially in this satin finish, we're a big fan of the style!

Inside The M3 Competition!

Popping inside the 2024 BMW M3 Competition, it's a soft touch at the top of the rear door panel and on the trim down below. Then it’s got some ambient lighting right there, BMW's signature door handle, and we love the speakers on the door.

The rear seats are pretty cool; love the little insert on the headrests, and it’s all perforated down the center. Of course, we have the M colors on these seat belts as well. The legroom at the back is actually good for a sports car, and then we've got some vent action around the climate zone and some USBs as well, and also the headroom is good.

On the front door panel, you’ll find all these soft-touch and ambient lighting similar to the rear door. Plus, you have all of the window controls, the mirrors do power fold-in, and you've got memory seats and blind spot monitoring at the mirrors as well. On to the front seats, and they're aggressive, but then they also have quite a bit of padding as well. Similar M colors are on the seat belt, and all of your power adjustments are on the side.

And in terms of storage, it has this cool little center stack on the center console with some USB action and nice padding on top, and then you have that cooled glove box with good storage space. Note that there’s no sunroof because it’s a carbon fiber roof.

Loaded Tech And Convenience In The 2024 BMW M3 Competition

2024 BMW M3 Competition Interior Steering Wheel

The steering wheel of the 2024 BMW M3 has leather trim all around, with the M colors in the center and the M logo at the bottom. Plus, you have the heated steering wheel button on the steering wheel, along with lots of carbon fiber treatment. It has carbon fiber on the paddle shifters too, which is another cool thing. You have the M1 and M2 modes on top of the steering, and then you have the usual stocks there on the back.

Now it’s got this full digital gauge cluster here in the center with a pretty aggressive look overall, and if we press the little M mode button, we can actually change how things look when we change the drive modes.

In reverse, we do have a backup camera here with trajectory lines as it turns generally; it also has that bird's-eye view as well, and it’s got the cool 3D view on top and even a car wash view, which is important for a car like this. Overall, good camera system. As for the rest of the infotainment system, this is just BMW's new giant screen layout. It responds really well overall, and I'd have to say that it's actually one of my preferred infotainment systems just because you always have access to the climate super easily, and it's just great overall.

Now it’s got a really nice trim on the dash, and then it's got carbon fiber with this particular one, and then down below, you've got a little volume control for the radio and the defroster all that, and then again cool carbon fiber trim with that. It also has a wireless phone charging pad, some cup holder action, a 12-volt socket, and then we have our little dial here for the infotainment system if you don't want to use the touch screen. Following that, it’s got the M shifter, with which you can make the shift points more or less aggressive, and then you have the parking brake behind it, the auto-hold, the exhaust button before that to make it louder or quieter, a setup button for the drive mode stuff and your M modes, etc.

A Hoon To Drive, But Should You Get It?

Yellow 2024 BMW M3 Competition Drifting

We are so excited to do a review of this because we just reviewed the M4 competition the other week. Now, what we will say initially, it definitely feels like an M car, aggressive, and we don't even have this in like the most aggressive settings; this is basically the comfort setting, and the best thing with BMW M cars is that they are tuned towards the performance side, so everything is more on edge! But handling is amazing, and although it is harsher with the suspension, we wouldn't call it uncomfortable. We shouldn't say hasher, it's stiff. That's a good way to put it. But we honestly don't mind it, I think that they've struck a pretty good balance here.

Power503 hp
Torque479 lb-ft
Transmission8-Speed Automatic
0-60 MPH3.4 Seconds
Top Speed156 MPH (Gov. Limited)

These seats, by the way, are really comfortable. We know you can get more aggressive, like carbon fiber bucket seats, but especially if you're going to daily drive this thing, we would probably get these ones because, having the heated and cooled function and just being more comfortable, we think that's kind of the route that we would go with this car.

It has good power from the engine too, and the transmissions in this setting, it is very fast. Now, when this is in the sport mode and with the aggressive transmission setting, and in the manual mode, it's got so much torque, it's just super razor sharp with the shifts.

Here's the deal: as we've driven the M4 Competition a few other times, what we're noticing about the M3 is that it doesn't drive any different than the M4. Honestly, the only difference is two-door versus four-door in the name, obviously. What we think is kind of funny about the situation is like M3s are so hard to get and they're so expensive because they're hard to get, but like if you're willing to have two doors instead of four doors, which most people do, we doubt if they're using this as a family car anyways, then you save yourself so much time, money, and effort to try to find one of these.

We get it; we also think the four-door look is cool; we think the M3 name is great; but yeah, it drives just like the M4 competition, and you know, when it comes to driving, it's not the best daily driver because it is stiff. But it's really fun; it's got this nice performance edge to it; it sounds good; and it handles amazingly well. We think that's the thing that we like the most about this.

Honestly, the acceleration is great, but we love the handling; it's so razor-sharp, and that's the fun part about this. Maybe that's why people like the M3 so much, as it's like, "Oh, I could put my kids in the back, right? Four doors, but it also just is the sports car!”
