2024 Chevrolet Blazer: High On Aesthetics, Low On Practicality?

The 2024 Blazer is Chevy’s answer to the crowded midsize SUV segment. But is it a solid answer or just an effort to stay relevant in the same segment?

2024 Chevrolet Blazer: High On Aesthetics, Low On Practicality?

The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer is one of the better looking and spacious midsize SUVs out there. However, does it tick other right boxes as well?

The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer is not a capable off-roader that existed about five decades ago. Chevrolet toned down the Blazer towards more on-road driving coupled with comfort features. After a recent refresh just last year, the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer brings no changes to the table this year. However, there’s a new Riptide Blue Metallic color for some extra bling.

The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer price starts at $35,400 for the base 2LT trim. Today, I’ll be reviewing a bit more aesthetically appealing 2LT Redline Edition. The Redline Edition costs $1,895 above the base price of 2LT, bringing it to $37,295. Let’s review this model and see if it is a solid value-for-money proposition. The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer pricing list for the four main trims is mentioned below.

2024 Chevrolet Blazer MSRP For All Trims

Sr.NoTrims MSRP (with destination charges)
12LT$36,795
23LT$40,695
3RS$44,195
4Premier$44,195

Camaro Crossover Styling

2024 Chevrolet Blazer 2LT Redline Edition Front Profile

Many find the latest refresh of the Blazer to be reminiscent of the sporty Camaro. Honestly, one of the biggest reasons you would buy a Blazer is that it's extremely stylish, something like the Camaro crossover. In the front, we have a little bit of an enlarged version of the grille, but it still has that typical Chevy shape.

With the Redline Edition, you get a lot of the premium features of the upscale models, including a gloss black grille, and you even have a nice red accent along the top. Now, of course, the other trim levels, such as the 2024 Chevrolet Blazer RS, will have the sporty mesh grille, and the Premiere will come with the chrome bars.

Sleek DRLs and headlight setup looks modern

For lighting, there are full LED headlights standard on every single trim level, even the base model, helping with better illumination. So that's a really big deal. Most automakers opt for incandescent projector headlights in this segment. However, it's still that separated housing on the front bumper. Sadly, there are no fog lamps available on any of the trim levels.

2024 Chevrolet Blazer 2LT Redline Edition Rear Profile

Coming to the rear, there’s a spoiler up top that gives it that nice and sporty look despite it being an SUV. The good thing is that all three tail light elements are LED in nature. So, that includes the brake light portion, the LED reverse light, and the LED turn signal indicator. Just like the front, we have a blacked-out Chevy emblem, and there’s blacked-out Blazer branding with the red trim around it.

2024 Chevrolet Blazer Redline Edition wheels

Different wheel sizes and design options are available

In the lower area, there are dual exposed exhaust outlets on every single Blazer model. The RS model gets a more square design to make it look a little bit sportier. Talking about our wheel options, you do have quite a few available. It's going to start with 18-inch alloys, and you have 20-inch and 21-inch alloy wheel options as well.

For the Redline Edition, we have gloss black finished 20-inch alloy wheels, and we have red accents going through them.  It looks very nice, especially with the sterling gray paint color. Going up the side profile, there are gloss black exterior mirrors with no blind spot monitoring on the 2LT trim which is a bummer. The same gloss black treatment continues to the door handles as well. Overall, the Redline Edition styling won't make you miss the costlier RS trim that costs $6,900 more.

Not-So-Special Interior

2024 Chevrolet Blazer Interior

Getting inside is easy with the standard smart entry, and there’s a standard remote start as well. The 2LT is going to be the only model that comes standard with cloth seating; all the rest of the trims will come with leather seating. Anyway, it’s a high-quality cloth, and we have a lot of contrasting elements inside with colors and stitching. Overall, it's very comfortable as well.

2024 Chevrolet Blazer Redline Edition Front Seats

Additionally, it's not a manual seat, so you are going to get the 8-way power-adjusting seat with two-way lumbar support across the entire lineup.  Once inside, we do have a little Chevy animation that plays on the display. The overall material quality is pretty decent, even with the base trim level.

We have a full leatherette covering across the armrest on the door trim with a stitching detail. Also, that same leatherette is in the center section. Going towards the dashboard, there’s hard-touch plastic over the top, while the lower portions get the same leatherette finish. In terms of design, I am not exactly a fan of this interior.

2024 Chevrolet Blazer 2LT Gauge Cluster

The gauge cluster looks outdated on lower trims

Firing up and starting with the gauge cluster, we do have a standard 4.2-inch multi-function display right in the middle and an analog gauge cluster. So, when most cars have moved to digital gauge clusters, this one looks pretty outdated and out of place. On the RS and Premiere trim levels, you will instead get a larger 8-inch display.

The steering wheel gets manual adjustments here, while the Premiere trim gets power adjustment and heating functionality. The center console storage is pretty decent. Adjacent to it are two cup holders, and above it there is a large storage area in the front, and you can opt for a wireless phone charging pad.

2024 Chevrolet Blazer Air Con Vents

Creative design for the climate control function

One of my only favorite elements of this cabin is the creative climate control. So you can adjust the temperature by twisting around the vent clockwise or anti-clockwise. Talking about the audio system, you do have a six-speaker standard sound system, and you get an eight-speaker Bose sound system on your upper and trim levels. The stock system is decent.

2024 Chevrolet Blazer Infotainment Screen

The support for wireless smartphone connectivity is a plus

The 10-inch infotainment display supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as well. The resolution is nice and crisp. However, Chevy’s infotainment system is not the Google-based version, but still, it gets the work done. You get access to an optional panoramic sunroof on 3LT and above trims for an additional $1,595. At least the higher trims should get it as standard in my opinion.

The Rear Seats Are Decent In Terms Of Comfort

The rear seats are pretty comfortable, and I could slide my feet easily underneath the front seat. The rear seats even recline a good deal, so you can definitely make yourself more comfortable. All models are going to come standard with rear vents. You're going to have heated rear seats as standard on the Premier model and optional on the RS trim level.

Chevrolet has surely paid attention on the comfort of the rear seat passengers. It's better than some of the more established competition. However, it misses on a more luxurious feel that some of its rivals like the Honda Passport and Jeep Grand Cherokee.  The rear seat also has a central armrest with two cup holders. The same can be folded down with double occupancy.

2024 Chevrolet Blazer Cargo Space

Not the best cargo space, lesser compared to the Grand Cherokee and Passport

Talking about cargo space, the rear tailgate was manual on my test example. However, the 3LT adds power ability, while the RS and Premier trims add foot activation for more convenience. With the rear seats up, there’s 30.5 cubic feet of space. The same expands to 64.2 cu-ft with the rear seats down.

2024 Chevrolet Blazer Gets Two Powertrain Options

2024 Chevrolet Blazer 2.0-liter Engine

The standard 2024 Chevrolet Blazer gets a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that makes 228 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. However, for more power, there’s a 3.6-liter V6 engine as well. It makes 308 hp and 290 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission, and FWD is standard. However, AWD is an optional extra for $2,700. I would recommend getting the AWD for better traction and driving especially on snow-laden roads

Chevy’s midsize Blazer tows as well

The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer can tow up to 4,500 pounds with the V6 engine when properly equipped. However, with the smaller engine, the Blazer can tow up to 1,500 pounds. Coming to MPG ratings, they are as below for different configurations. Once again, the rivals including the the Hyundai Santa Fe and Honda Passport have an upper hand and offer better gas mileage.

Sr.NoPowertrain FWD/AWDMPG Ratings
12.0 L FWD22 mpg city, 29 mpg highway and 25 mpg combined
22.0 LAWD22 mpg city, 27 mpg highway and 24 mpg combined
33.6 LFWD19 mpg city, 26 mpg highway and 22 mpg combined
43.6 LAWD18 mpg city, 26 mpg highway and 21 mpg combined

2024 Chevrolet Blazer Is A Decent Handler

The 2024 Chevy Blazer specs are pretty good, and even with the standard 2.0-liter engine, it feels responsive. On paper, there is not a ton of power, but out on the road, I actually feel a little bit better about it. It is the torque that makes it feel a little bit faster than it is, and it really seemed to have no problem getting up to speed.

For more power, the optional V6 would make more sense. The nine-speed automatic transmission is a nice and smooth transmission. It seems to give you power when you ask for it, and when you're just rolling around town at a casual pace, it's really nice and smooth, just kind of making itself unknown, which is exactly what you want.

The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer gets accurate steering, and handling corners is quite fun. The road imperfections are well soaked. However, it’s not the best-handling midsize SUV, but it does its job well. The Blazer RS gets a different steering and suspension setup for a livelier driving experience. Surely, it gets the bigger V6 and makes for a more livelier driving experience.

Should You Get One?

The 2024 Chevrolet Blazer is a good option in the midsize SUV category. However, it’s not the best at anything you ask for.

The Camaro crossover styling is a strong USP, but it lacks practicality, fuel economy and luxury for the asking price. The higher trims are a bit expensive for what they offer. So, overall, it might be a hit or miss for you.
