The 2024 Chevrolet Camaro might be your last chance to get your hands on the ICE-powered authentic muscle car from the brand
The Camaro's been a performance car sold by Chevy since 1967, ending its first run in 2002 after four generations and being brought back in 2010 for the fifth generation. The sixth-generation Camaro that you see these days was released in 2016, and for 2024, this is the final model year.
The 2024 Chevrolet Camaro is available in 12 trims, including the new Collector and Garage editions, and in three power plants, ranging from the 3.6 L V6 all the way up to the monster supercharged 6.2 from the ZL1. For 2024, the LS trim and its four-cylinder turbocharged engine are axed.
The 2024 Chevrolet Camaro competes with the new Ford Mustang, while Dodge discontinued the Challenger. However, after 2024, the Camaro will return with some form of electrification to remain relevant. Today I’ll be reviewing the 2024 Chevrolet Camaro 2SS, which starts at a price of $47,300. Worth it? Let’s find out!
Authentic Muscular Styling That We All Love!
For the 2SS, we get full LED headlamps for a high and low beam. It's a projector setup with an LED daytime running strip. Also, there’s an additional running strip below the massive functional airflow. Although it's not quite as aggressive when it comes to airflow as a 1LE Edition, The 2SS is also available as a 1LE, but remember, it's going to be 6,500 bucks on top of what you're already paying for the 2SS.
With a 2SS, we get a black bow tie up front. The front lip that we get here is a body-color front lip that's not nearly as aggressive as what you would get from a 1LE Edition but still pokes out a lot more than what you get from a factory LT1. We get the hood scoop too, or heat extractor, whatever you like to call it, for the mighty V8 engine. All V8-powered Camaros get this heat extractor for better cooling. It adds a bit to the overall styling as well.
Nitro yellow metallic looks bold and expressive
If I were buying a 2024 Camaro, I would choose between a nitro yellow metallic, the radiant red metallic, or even the summit white. I also like the black stripes on the hood.
However, the same could have been on the roof as well for a more complete look. Coming to the sides, the 20-inch wheels with red Brembo brake calipers look cool.
We get a red, white, and blue Camaro emblem on the front fender with some shiny chrome. The outside body color mirror gets blindspot monitoring. Coming to the rear, I really like the smoked tail lights.
So, there’s the rear parking-sensing Chevy bow-tie and the SS signature spoiler. We get the active quad exhaust tips too, and this sounds amazing with the 6.2 L V8. It sounds amazing with the 3.6 L V6, but with the 6.2, it's a whole other level.
The 2024 Chevrolet Camaro Interior Is Aging But Loaded
Stepping inside the quite premium 2SS trim, you get to see a hard plastic door panel. but above it there’s a super soft leather stitch trim, making it a lot more comfortable to rest your arm out here, especially if the windows are down. Inside, there are heated and ventilated front seats with red SS badging, gray contrast, and some perforation with very solid bolstering.
The gauge cluster shows plenty of information at a glance
We get a forward collision alert and a heated steering wheel, along with cruise control settings. Even the gauge cluster shows plenty of information. Like tire pressure, oil life, timers, and much more. We get auto headlamps but no auto high beams or rain-sensing wipers. I would expect rain-sensing wipers on a 2SS at this price point. However, there is a heads-up display.
In the infotainment, there’s an 8-inch touchscreen display. So there is support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. However, there’s no standard navigation feature. The backup camera offers high resolution. Coming to climate controls below the screen, there’s a dual-zone climate control, and there are controls for heated and ventilated seats.
High On Performance, Low On Practicality
When it comes to the rear seats, it’s not recommended for full-size adults. The rear seats might be usable for kids. However, in a practical scenario, two adults are the best fit for this car.
Talking about practicality, there’s not much in terms of cargo space as well. The coupe version gets 9.1 cu-ft of space, while the convertible drops the same to just 7.3 cu-ft.
Get Ready For An Adrenaline Rush
The 2024 Chevrolet Camaro 2SS gets a mighty 6.2-liter V8 engine with 455 hp and 455 lb-ft of torque. It is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission in my test example. However, for performance-oriented drivers, there’s a 6-speed manual transmission as well.
Quick 0-60 times puts a smile on your face
All that power and torque gets transferred to the rear wheels, and the 0–60 sprint can be done in 4.0 seconds (10-speed automatic) or at the maximum 4.3 seconds (6-speed manual).
The Camaro ZL1 is a total beast
For even more performance, you need to opt for the ZL1 trim with the supercharged 6.2-liter V8 making 650 hp on tap. The 2024 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 0–60 sprint takes just about 3.5 seconds.
How The 2024 Camaro 2SS Drives?
The Chevrolet Camaro 2024 model gets a V8 too and there’s a lot of aural drama in terms of exhaust. The V8 burbles through the idle and roars when pushed hard. The power surge is instantaneous and fun. So there are different drive models, like Sport, Tour, Ice, and Track. Being in track mode, the Camaro behaves the way it should. On highways, you can cruise effortlessly with this one, and even the NVH levels are pretty decent.
The handling is on point, tackling corners with relative ease. On road imperfections, the ride quality and the suspension setup are better than most sports cars. It is neither like heavy-duty trucks nor like a super-pliant sedan. So, overall, the ride quality is fine with a solid feel. Overall, it’s a full 10 out of 10 for throttle response, a full 10 out of 10 on shifts, and you get a full 10 out of 10 for exhaust pops and crackles as well.
Should You Buy The Final ICE Camaro?
Yes. The sixth-generation Camaro 2SS is an authentic experience. As we don’t know the future of the Camaro moniker, buying one right now below the price tag of $50,000 is a bargain. The 2024 Chevrolet Camaro specs are sure to give you some thrills. However, practicality and mpg ratings must be kept aside while buying one. Anyways, Camaro delivers well on what it’s made for: the authentic American muscle car experience.
